That’s a very familiar scene. I remember one time I played along a little while.. I got as far as having stripped down to my underwear, before getting annoyed with him and telling him I thought he was kidding and I that was trying to be funny.
Kind of backfired that one did! He said “I am kidding! ..but I’m not stupid!” :-/
